I have an 8 year old Bichon Frise and recently noticed that the hair on top of all four paws has turned a pinkish brown. Any idea as to what might be causing this. Aloha, Bob

Saliva, from licking..usually due to allergic cause.

Pink staining to the paws is usually either from the dog licking the paws (salivary stain) or from a yeast skin infection.
The yeast is usually more brownish and is at the base of the toenails also. A yeast infection allergies or mites can cause the dog to lick the paws.
The only other common cause is pink staining from a fabric or collar if the dog has wet feet in contact with a red material.

Your pet is likely licking the top of its paws on the sly and the saliva poteins are causing a change in the white fur to the rust stain color. Another possibility is interdigital dermatitis or excessive sebaceous discharge from the skin and hair follicles in the interdigital spaces. Some breeds with pododermatitis (foot skin infection) can have an underlying cause of demodex mites. Bottom line: Don't waste time with internet advice.
See your veterinarian and if a general practitioner cannot find any cause and there indeed is discomfort involved with the feet - ASK for a referral to a board certified veterinary dermatologist.

This is a sign of allergy from licking the paws and the reaction of the saliva with the hair coat. you should consult with veterinarian for anti-hestamine for allergy like hydroxyzine or chlorpheramine
