Help needed for Sheppard Diagnosed with epilepsy on meds

My 1 year old german shepherd is suffering from severe seizures. He has been diagnosed with epilepsy and is on medication. I have also been in touch with the breeder who recommended some homepathic remedies to help and urged me to find a homeopathic vet in my area. So far I have had no luck with that but I am still looking. His seizures began after he got vaccinated and started heartworm medication. Any connection?

I'd like to wean him off his medication if possible. Please help. Thank You

Lowchen with cut that won't heal. Help!

Question: My 10 lb. Lowchen has a open wound on the top of her back from scratching. Do you have suggestions on what I can do to help it heal?

I cleaned it then put bacitracin on it but then I have to cover it because she keeps scratching. I would like to leave the wound open so air can get on it. I think it was from a flea bite. We live in Hawaii and this is the 1st time its happened and she is 1 yr old.

Thank You

Schnauzer with Cushing's. Want to avoid harsh drugs and frequent lab tests. Help!

16 y/o hyperthyroid cat. Couldn't find answer on your blog. Can you help?

Hi There: I've read the two questions posted on the blog about hyperthyroidism, & their responses, & neither answers my question.

My cat is 16 yrs old, & has had hyperthyroidism for not quite a yr now. We have tried methimazole (first treatment), & the one similar to it (don't have the bottle in front of me - carbimazole?), which we are doing right now. Neither of these meds have been successful in controling her condition, & both have resulted in horribly sore, scabby, & bleeding ears. She is quite miserable.

Radiocat is not an option for her - at age 16, & having never been out of the house, I'm certain she'd starve herself to death during the waiting period. The closest place to us who can do it is about 1.5 hrs away. If she were 6, maybe, but not at age 16. We won't consider it - we know her too well, & she would not be able to handle it.

So, I am asking about surgery. Our vet, who is excellent but young, has never done the surgery on a cat before (watched one during vet school, & has done it on dogs). He's concerned about the close quarters in there, & the possibility of nerve damage. He tried looking for info on whether the surgery has ever been done w/ lasers or not, & couldn't find anything regarding that. Everyone pushes the Radiocat, & not surgery as much.

Could this surgery be done w/ lasers? Where could my vet find info about it, if it has been done, & by whom? We're tentatively looking at a surgery date of next Fri, no matter which type of surgery he does. Our poor kitty is quite healthy otherwise, has been all her life, but this is really making her feel awful. Because she's otherwise healthy, I'm not so worried about the risk of anesthesia, etc, but just making this as easy on her as possible.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Do you know of some place that specializes in cancer research in cats?:

I wrote you earlier about my cat being diagnosed with cancer. You were very kind and helpful and prompt in your responses, but unfortunately, I lost my cat due to the cancer. I was wondering if you could give me the address of some facility that does research on cancer for cats, so I could tell my family and friends if they wish to donate some money to this worthy cause in memory of Mittens.

Thanks Again

New baby coming. Worried about jealous cat

My wife and I are having a baby and are concerned that our beloved cat may get jealous and become a safety issue. This is based on her previous behavior around guests at our house. She meows then hisses to get attention from visitors. We are looking for a non-medication way of treating this issue if possible.

Thank You

Beagle with diarrhea

I have a 12yr old beagle that continually has diarrhea. My vet has done many blood tests & antibiotics. The blood tests are always normal. She just had him on flagyl for 2 wks. During that time the diarrhea went away but we thought he might of had a slight seizure. So on reading here on the computer I asked her to try Fortiflora. It has only been 1 wk, stools aren't bloody anymore & are a little soft but not as many trips outside. But today he is acting sick didn't want to eat & had many trips outside. I think it was gas making him think he had to go potty. Then he was shaking . Very nervous today. But my husband has some serious medical problems & the dog I think picks up on this.
Please help. Thank You

PS. my husbands always thinks it's the heartguard plus medicine.

Neoplase?

Hi,

Have you ever heard of a treatment for cancer involving Neoplasene? If so, what can you tell me about it? How much does a treatment cost?

Chihuahua with heart condition

I have 9 year old chihauhua with an enlarged heart that coughs/gags on Lasix & Enacard but but no improvement. Is there any other medication or treatment that will improve his condition?

Poodle with chronic skin problems

My poodle mix has chronic skin infections. He's taken Baytrel and Flagyl over 3 years. Had neg. ANA and is fed Innova food. Has what appears to be seborrhea and sometimes has reddened bumps that he licks. Tried Malasab Shampoo, and other antibacterial shampoos. Currently have him on immunity boost vitamins, avoid snacks like beggin strips jerky treats ect.

I want him to be really healthy. ANY Suggestions? He does not scracth but he does have an odor and I can tell when he needs Flagyl b/c he smells like bread. Also has chronic ear infections.
